The Ecology Action Centre has acted as a voice for Nova Scotia’s environment for over 37 years. The EAC was voted #1 Activist Organization by readers of The Coast magazine for four years running. Since 1971, the EAC has been working to build a healthier, more sustainable Nova Scotia. Today we have over 1000 members, 250 volunteers and staff, and seven active teams and committees. The Ecology Action Centre works closely with social and natural scientists and makes strong use of science in communicating its message to the public.

C-Vision is an environmentally-conscience company, and was the precipient of a Dalhousie Eco-Efficiency Award. C-Vision was one of the first companies in North America to develop a lead-free manufacturing process in compliance with RoHS and WEEE standards, and had done some engineering work designing and manufacturing a LED emergency light. This announcment signifies a new direction for C-Vision to develop its own environmentally- and energy-friendly lighting product. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $2.9 Million dollars, and is expected to last approximately 2 years.

When the Jost family moved from Germany to Nova Scotia in 1970, they were told it wasn’t the right climate for growing grapes. Hans Wilhelm Jost had operated a successful family-run vineyard and cellar in the Rhine region of Germany, but upon settling in the Malagash Peninsula, he decided to try his hand at beef, hog, and grain. Just over 25 years ago, the Josts applied for a license to start their winery and began production in the garage of their house. They built the first part of the present winery in 1984, with a goal to one day hit a milestone of 10,000 cases of wine. Today, they produce over 50,000 cases per year.
